Hi! i'm Kathy Monroe and I am the founder/owner of Scoops Fill Up Station. Scoops Fill Up Station is an eclectic little cafe that serves simple food in a cool, comfortable atmosphere. Here is a little bit about how scoops got started.
In 2002, I was doing the same thing that most people do - getting up everyday and going to work at the place we affectionately call "corporate america." For me, that meant going to my job as the director of property management for a loan company. Good job - bad commute -good perks - great pay - no fun! But, life was good, normal, predictable - the usual stuff.
A one day road trip to Beaufort, SC with two of my best buds (Bonita and my son Devin) inspired the thought, "it sure would be nice to open a little, old-fashioned ice cream parlor in a quaint downtown one day." But, the trip ended and that thought was tucked at the back of my brain and life went on. A couple of months later, through a series of strange events, I came across a tiny little cafe space, tucked behind an antique shop in quaint, downtown Lawrenceville. The thought about opening a little ice cream parlor came screaming back in my head and as they say, the rest was history.
Scoops on the square opened on september 14, 2002. We started off as an ice cream parlor with 10 seats. in december 2002, I purchased the antique business in front of scoops, started having a massive antique sale and little by little expanded scoops. The menu at scoops expanded also. Just ice cream moved to adding a chicken salad cafe plate (the best move of my life - if you've ever asked anyone what their favorite thing at scoops is, you'll know why i say that) and the cafe plate moved to a full lunch menu over time.
I juggled scoops and my day job as director of property managment until november 2003. Then I took the big plunge. I quit my day job and officially joined the ranks of the fully self-employed. Great job - great commute - great perks - ok pay - great fun! I don't regret it for one minute!
In february 2005, we decided it was time for a change. We closed our original location at 197 West Crogan Street, leased a new space a couple of doors up at 225 west crogan street and the long construction process began. The new location is better than ever. our original 10 seats have grown into 40 and i am more excited about the future than ever before! Oh, i almost forgot. We are now Scoops Fill Up Station. Our new location was once an old gas station and I wanted to take full advantage of the history of our building. Mostly I just thought it was kind of catchy!
